What are Bogs
:
Are a type of wetland that acumulates acidic peat which is a deposite of dead plant matter like moss or lichen. There are four different kinds of bogs called valley bogs, blanket bogs, raised bogs and quaking bogs. Valley bogs develope in vallies or hollows that slope gently into a rut. Blanket bogs form in cool climates that have high rainfall perentages. Raised bogs form from a flat marshy area or lake over acidic or non-acidic substrates. Quaking bogs usually form at the edges of acidic lakes or in the wetter parts of vallies.

Who lives in Bogs: Bogs are very sensitive habitats that that support a lot of life. The species of plants and animals restricted to bog habitats are called tyrphobiants. Bogs can support frogs, snapping turtles, birds, insects and fish. Mammals that are supported by bogs are beavers, muskrats, and snow shoe hares. Most of the plants that inhabit bogs are carniverous and get their nutrients from insects because the soil has few nutrients.
